In a busy life where you barely have time, Frozen Pastries are lifesavers It may just be a mixing of flour and salt but everything takes time, even more time to do it well.

Doorstep Organics is a leading organic grocery delivery service stocking a range of pastry. From butter, chocolate to wholemeal, our stocks taste just like a homemade puff pastry (or maybe even better).

What is exactly a frozen pastry?

Frozen pastries are regular pieces of dough that have undergone the freezing stage prior to baking. The concept of frozen pastries arises from the trend driven by consumers' appetite to eat fresh food but at chef quality.

While a good puff pastry can be easily made at home, it may not be of the highest restaurant quality. Moreover, pre-made pastries are easier to handle and they save a lot of time leaving more time for everything else you love doing.

How long to thaw before we roll the dough?

Generally, frozen pastries can be thawed for 30 minutes at room temperature (unless your room is close to freezing like ice water). Usually, they are ready on the work surface and rolling pin within 40 minutes after being out of the freezer. Also, unused pastries- You can wrap them in plastic and freeze them again.

So, even if you fold the dough by mistake, you won't need to waste it.

Recipes that include pastries

Frozen pastries are really flexible and can be used in a lot of recipes. Here are some of the recipes that we can make using frozen pastries;

  • Sweet creamy apple tart
  • Lemon asparagus puffs
  • Chicken and mushroom pie
  • Easy sausage rolls
  • Cheese bacon pastry twists
  • Beef pot pie

What are the types of frozen pastries?

There are five main types of pastries; shortcrust pastry, filo pastry, choux pastry, flaky pastry, and puff pastry. These pastries will have different textures, variety in layers, and also additional ingredients in a lot of cases. Different types of pastries are preferred for baking different dishes as each have their own unique qualities.

Shortcrust pastry Vs Puff pastry

Shortcrust pastry has a slightly biscuity, crumbly texture that resists soaking up liquids, making it ideal for quiches, tarts, samosas, and other savoury delights with wet fillings or that won't be served right away.

Whereas, puff pastry is flaky, light, and buttery, making it ideal for pies and pastries, whereas shortcrust pastry has a crumbly, biscuit-like texture, making it ideal for tart or quiche cases.
