The Bengalis are avid fish lovers. There is nothing more they would like than a bowl of their local fish curry and a mound of rice. But they do love a multi course meal and lentils always feature. This dish is known as Cholar Daal, it is a delicious curry, harmonious, creamy and nutty.
The Spice Tailor Bengali Coconut Curry is based on this favourite and the flavours are well-rounded, soft and lyrical which is fitting as the Bengalis have a deep love of poetry and song. They would eat these with a local fried flatbread, called luchis. Our lentil curry isn’t as sweet as theirs but it is really flavourful and has requisite pieces of coconut nestling among the plump yellow lentils.
Perfect with Bengali fried Luchis, but also lovely with the Spice Tailor Onion Flame-baked Naans or some simple plain rice.
